Meet the Artist
Mekala Rodrigo is a Melbourne-based self-taught artist whose work blends expressive florals and imaginative portraiture. Working primarily in acrylic and graphite her practice is driven by freedom of expression, colour, emotion and the natural world.
Trained as an architect, her eye for structure, balance and spatial storytelling subtly informs her composition while instinct and intuition lead the brush. Born and raised in Sri Lanka, her creative life has always been an act of freedom, a choice to follow imagination over convention.
Spirit of the Wild marks her first major exhibition, a vision she has carried quietly for the six years and now brings fully into form.
About the Works
This body of work explores the quiet power and fragility of endangered and vulnerable animal species. Each work is an invitation to pause, to really look into their eyes and see them as living beings at the risk of disappearing from the wild.
